The GI designation indicates that it is a modification of the MAN B&W MC and ME engine into Gas Injection.
The ME-GI engine is an electronically controlled engine, which introduces electronic control of both oil and gas injection, ensuring that the process of mixture formation, ignition and combustion is optimized.
This concept is based on a Gas Injection principle with pilot fuel ignition. With this principle, the diesel combustion process can be fully utilized, and the same high thermal efficiency as for the heavy fuel oil burning two-stroke engines can thereby be obtained.
The ME-GI engine therefore possesses inherent advantages of reducing emissions. Fuel oil and gas fuel prices are changing. However, by utilizing the ME-GI engine, full fuel flexibility and the highest efficiency are available regardless of the actual price level of fuels on the market.
